Skin is left completely open. Whatever brown you reach for is the right one, and it will not be fighting a layer of shading somebody else put there first.
Hair drawn as open shapes
Every coil, loc, braid and twist is a large open shape rather than a solid black mass — so you can color it, highlight it, or leave it pale if you like.
African pattern throughout
Adire indigo and bogolan mudcloth, rattan chairs, beaded curtains, woven baskets and monstera leaves. The patterns are the point, not the background.
